Stints are a period of time chosen by a member, where Sentlive will stand Sentry during the Stint, and monitor the member more closely than in normal use. It is designed to provide additional reassurance during an activity or journey, when a member may want their chosen connections to be alerted if they do not respond as expected.
When to use Stints #
A Stint can be started whenever you want. It may be particularly useful during an activity or event such as walking somewhere, going for a jog, making a late-night journey or travelling, especially alone. Stints can also be useful for regular routines, such as a commute to work or a journey to school, where the usual journey time is known.
How to begin a Stint #
Go to the Stints page, which is available from the menu when you are logged in, and complete the simple setup form.
You will choose:
- Duration: how long the Stint is intended to last.
- Delay period: how long Sentry should wait before sending a Signal when it detects indications of a possible problem.
- Recipients: whether a Signal should go to your Crew only, all your connections, or a specific Loop.
When you have completed the form, select Start Stint to begin, or cancel the setup. If you leave the page without doing either, your setup will remain available when you return to the Stints page.
During a Stint #
Once the Stint begins, you can use Sentlive normally. You should respond to any checks you receive from the Sentry or other connections within the time allowed.
When the Stint reaches its end, you can extend it or confirm that it has ended. If you do neither, a Signal will be generated.
Sentry can also generate a Signal if you do not respond to a Check within the time you have chosen. In addition, Sentry considers a combination of factors that may indicate a problem. If these factors prompt a request for you to respond and you do not respond within the time allowed, a Signal will be generated.
The factors Sentry considers can vary depending on your device and the information available. They can include whether your device is switched on, whether your location is available, whether and when you have interacted with Sentlive, and whether particular movement is detected. No single factor automatically determines that a Signal will be sent.
Your chosen recipients are informed when a Signal is generated, according to the recipient settings you selected for the Stint.
If you send a Signal yourself, the Stint ends automatically. To end a Stint without sending a Signal, use the End Stint button on the Stints page.
The Stints page includes tips to help your Stint work as intended. Please read and follow this guidance when starting a Stint.
