Sentlive works through a web browser, so the browser and device you use can affect how certain features behave. For the best experience, we recommend installing Sentlive as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your mobile device. Sentlive remains a web-based service; there is no need to download it from an app store.
Using Sentlive on desktop and laptop computers #
Sentlive works with modern versions of mainstream browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari. Keeping your browser up to date helps ensure that you have the latest features and fixes.
If a Sentlive feature does not behave as expected, check that your browser is up to date and that its settings allow the feature to work. The most relevant settings are usually those for location, notifications and sound.
Using Sentlive on mobile devices #
We recommend installing Sentlive on your device’s Home Screen so that you can open it directly, much like an app.
Once installed, Sentlive still needs an internet connection to communicate with the service. Your device and browser also control permissions for features such as location and notifications.
When Sentlive asks for permission to use a feature, consider allowing it if you want to use that feature. If you decline, some functions may be limited. You can usually review or change permissions later in your device or browser settings.
Using Sentlive on iPhone and iPad #
Sentlive can be used in a browser on an iPhone or iPad. However, push notifications require iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later, and Sentlive must be installed as a web app on your Home Screen.
To install Sentlive using Safari:
- Open Safari and go to Sentlive.
- Open the Share menu.
- Select Add to Home Screen.
- Enable Open as Web App, if that option is shown.
- Tap Add.
You can then open Sentlive using its Home Screen icon. When prompted, allow notifications if you want to receive push notifications.
Other browsers may also offer an Add to Home Screen option. The exact steps depend on the browser and version you are using.
If you use an older version of iOS or iPadOS, you can still use Sentlive through a browser, but push notifications are not supported on those versions.
For more detailed installation instructions, see Installing Sentlive on Your Devices.
Location permissions #
Sentlive can include your device’s location when you send a CALM or Signal Alert, provided location access is available and permitted.
Your browser may ask for permission the first time you use a feature that needs your location. The wording and available choices vary by device and browser. You can review or change the permission later in your browser or device settings.
If you decline permission, or your device cannot provide a location, the Alert may be sent without one.
Cache and cookies #
Browsers store information to help websites load efficiently and remember preferences. Occasionally, stored information can cause a page to display incorrectly or prevent a change from appearing.
If Sentlive is behaving unexpectedly, try refreshing the page or closing and reopening the browser or web app. If the problem continues, clearing the browser’s cache may help.
Be aware: clearing cookies can log you out of Sentlive and other websites. If you clear them, you may need to sign in again.
Sound notifications #
If you are not hearing sound notifications for messages, first check that your device’s volume is turned up and that sound is not muted.
If sound works elsewhere but not in Sentlive, check your browser’s settings for Sentlive, including any permissions relating to sound or automatic playback. The available settings vary by browser and device.
Sound behaviour can also differ between a mobile browser tab and Sentlive installed as a web app.
If the problem persists, please contact us and tell us which device, operating system and browser you are using, along with what you have already tried.
